Personal background
Hi I'm Mike Lyons,a 45 year old male out of London England.
I work for myself painting and decorating,(or interior design, for the more disearning client.)
I've been searching the Universe, with SETI classic and now SETI@BOINK since july 2002 and still haven't bumped into ET.I feel it's a great way to use my unused computer resourse. As SETI is unfunded from nasa or any other governmental body.I guess I'm doing this because I love astronomy.I love life and if you put the two together, you join the SETI project, well at least I have.
I live with my significant other in a flat in Islington London. She is called Mauvis,(old French),but is known as Miv.She spent half a life at various art colleges. She is my age,but looks younger
Apart from astronomy and being a romantic,(you have to be to look for little green men),I love music.I play a little guitar,(not to the standard,I like to listen to though).I love jazz the most of all musical forms, though I have a very eclectic taste---everything from Chopin and Rachmaninov to Black eye peas and Outcast.Miles Davis,John Coltrane,Charlie Parker and Jo Pass are my favourite old school jazzers.Of the more modern ilk I like Herbie Hancock,Al DiMeola,Diana Krall,Rachelle Ferrell,Keith Jarrett,Earnest Walker Junior and far to many to mention here
I love football--Manchester United being my hero's.I love all things digital---most people I know think my pc is a prosthetic extension of my brain--as is the case,in my eyes too!!
I'm kinda political, very much too the left.I'm still proud to call myself a socialist. Not very fashionable these days.I always vote labour, but,if Blair stays around I won't vote at all.He has taken the Labour leadership from centre left social democratic,to a centre right creation,(New Labour),that is more at home rubbing shoulders with neo-cons like George W.The rank and file in the Labour party are way to the left of Blair.I relate to a grouping called the "Tribune Group".The Tribune is a magazine that has always represented the left flank of the Labour party.--God this makes me sound really serious, which is only half my story.I like nothing better then partying, getting high, laughing and chatting till dawn.
I guess as a kind,I'm a bit of an old hippy. If anyone wants to get in touch to talk about AGN's,or Nina Simone, or football,(not the American kind please,I find it really dull,to much stop and start and muscle),or world affairs or just for a laugh,or anything e-mail me on mix2mix1@hotmail.com
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I mention why I run SETI above!
It's unfunded research, into one of the great questions----are we alone in this huge Universe,(surely not?)
I guess I partake of the project as a kind of overspill of my interest in astronomy.
Of course I guess the main reason I use my unused computer resourse this way,is because I'm a total romantic.
I think you guys at Berkeley are heros,You take so much abuse from people, when BOINK has problems. It's like the people who abuse you donate 25% of thier saleries!!For sure these miserable no-lifes,donate doodley, even those on mega saleries.
As for suggestions, maybe some more serious fund raising,to buy greater bandwidth and/or more hardware
