Personal background
I'm a technical manager with a large datawarehousing company. I'm in my mid forties and have done a little of everything from a hardware and software perspective. I'm a huge startrek fan. I was a member of STAR in the 70's. (Star Trek Association for Revival). I'm a member of the Planetary Society and the NSS. I was once a member of APRO (Aerial Phenomenon Research Organization).
I enjoy music of all kinds, but was raised on Country. I play guiter, sing and act when I get a chance. I love computers and electronics in general. I enjoy the outdoors and am hoping to build a log home soon. I have a wonderful wife of 22 years and two outstanding teenage daughters, 15 and 17... I am invovled in my Church both from a technical assistance perspective and a musical and acting direction. I love dogs, was raised with a German Shepherd and hope to have one again, when I have the time to do it justice. We have 4 cats right now.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is no doubt in my mind that there is intelligent life out there. And that is even with strong religious beliefs, which I don't believe contradict such an assumption. Ultimately, proving there is intelligent life in the universe, other than our own, will inspire man to get out of our own little corner and explore, in a way that we are not doing now.
Humans have been sending out signals for 100 years. So who knows who may have already picked up something. I do believe we should send out a specific beacon however to increase the odds of someone detecting it in the same way we are attempting to listen.
