Personal background
Born 1959 in Kamloops, BC Canada where I still live. 7 years at TRU with academic knowledge in Business, Computer Programming, Bookkeeping and Accounting. I now teach, one-on-one, people on how to use business software and perform internet basics. I also teach, one-on-one, english to asian clients over the internet. I have a 4.5" reflector that I use regularly and on the 1st of September, 2001, I was successful in seeing sunspot activity, using filtered binoculars. Will attempt using the telescope a little later when I add a solar filter!
I am now a member of the Kamloops Astronomical Society of which has about 35 members.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti is a very worthwhile endeavor and I would love to see it expanded or, at least, further funded. I have been involved with Seti@home since 1998.

There can be nothing but positive results through discovering other "Life" in the universe. How it will effect religion, I don't know and that will be up to the theologians to discover.

Is there any purpose in transmitting a beacon?? I don't think so for a few reasons. 1) The funding can be spent better in upgrading computer systems and detection techniques. 2) With the amount of electromagnet clutter that we have been sending out, over the last 50 years, if they don't know we are here already, then they do not have the technology to detect a beacon anyway.

I run Seti@home for 2 reasons; 1) I think this is one way to assist those who operate this worthy organization, even if I am processing previously scanned packets or that what I process is an infinitesimal part of the data received. 2) There has got to be other life out there; "If there isn't life out there, then it is an awful waste of space" and I would like to be in on the ground floor when it is discovered.

Thanks for that opportunity.
