I am 52 years old presently living in Baytown Texas, currently self-employed running an Automotive Machine Shop ( or is it running me??? ;-) ) Hobbies include Yoga, Tai Chi, and trying to reach orbit on my Kawasaki ZX- 12R. There are also too many other interests of mine that 24 hours in one day just do not allow time for ( or one lifetime for that matter ).

The notion that we are the ONLY form of intelligent life in the universe is absurd. I believe that we will discover extraterrestrial life when our technology advances enough for us to discover the method by which communication may be established. I feel that the present Seti Program may produce results but it will be a long shot as I feel we are searching in the wrong areas, however this is still a very worthwhile effort as the science is sound and it may be the only effort that I myself am able to donate for the cause. My present computer is a homebuilt 1.8 Gig Athlon on a Abit NF7S, 512 Meg Ram, ( overclocked to 2.2 gig ) and runs 24 hours a day on the Seti@home project.
The benefits and dangers of revealing ourselves to the universe ( if indeed we have not already ) we are truly dependant on the races that find us.... I have great reservations about letting ourselves be found rather than we being the ones doing the discovery. Our own relations on this planet between our own races shows that we cannnot understand each other ( or perhaps just a reluctance ) much less agree. We cannot expect that the Races who discover us to be as Magnanamous our imaginary Vulcans or as dreaded as the Drach. The Point is we cannnot know or expect to know the drives and expectations of any alien races. We are not in the position to pick and chose and would we be wise enough to do so anyway? We must continue to advance in Space and Technology and not let anything slow us down! |
