Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does E.T. life exist? I think it would be arrogant for us to think otherwise. The universe is so huge that it defies comprehension, and in that vast ocean of space, there have to be other inhabited islands. I think the fact that we haven't discovered life elsewhere is more a function of our limited technology. That said, I would imagine that in the next 50 to 100 years, we will either discover E.T. life, or it will discover us. The potential benefits could be that our technologies will make gigantic leaps forwards. However, the potential for miscommunication is also enormous. I would hope that any process of first contact will be carried out slowly and carefully.
