Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Certainly I believe that life exists outside of our planet. I expect that life is not the exception, but is rather the rule, and I expect that as we attain the capability to explore our solar system, and eventually beyond our solar system, that we will find life in unexpected places, and in forms unseen here on Earth.

Should we send a beacon for others ? Perhaps. Could there be risks in doing so ? Perhaps. Of course, if the "Earth is the center of the universe" folks are right, there are no risks, because no one is out there to listen. What should we send ? I would suggest something simple, such as an invitation to communicate. We first have to learn how to talk to one another. Initially, complex "speech" will likely be impossible.

Why do I run SET@Home. Simple, I have the computer resources. The more people we get involved, the better our chances are at identifying a civilization outside of our solar system. I would like to see it happen in my lifetime.
