Personal background
Hi - I'm Scott Huffman from NC. I'm 42 - I own and run an ISP in Charlotte providing nationwide service. I've been in this industry since 1995, bought my 1st computer in 94 for my carpentry business kinda switched careers a year later. Before this, I was in the U.S. Navy. I've always looked up at the stars and wondered what's out there. I've followed Nasa since I was a kid watching the Apollo missions on TV. I've built models and rockets. Read books on Space and SCI-Fi. Why yes! I do watch Star Trek. Doesn't everyone? I think we need to do everything we can to look into the stars find others. I cannot accept that we are the only ones. I believe there are others. Mankind needs to establish a permanent presence in space. Whether it's in Orbit above Earth, on the Moon or Mars. Mankind benefits when we explore. Just think if we still thought the world was Flat. Once we started to realize there was more over the horizon, we benefited from the discoveries made by Columbus. Look at the benefits we enjoy today because of space exploration.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
What do I think? 1) yes I do believe E.T.'s exist. It would be great if we could establish voice or visual contact in my life time. But I'm not sure it will happen. I think it will take us some time. We personally have too many issues on this planet to resolve. We are probably considered infants compared to E.T's. We wouldn't be ready to meet them until we've grown up. The benefits of meeting E.T.'s far out way the risks. Yet! We have to be careful and not destoy ourselves after we learn about them and the gain of knowledge and technology. We may find that E.T.'s have rules about lower (yes us) lifeforms.
2) yes keep transmitting. We should say hello, we come in peace and want to learn about you. We hope you will learn about us.
3) I've got this extra computer time on several of my spare servers and work stations doing nothing, so I'm donating it and telling others to do the same and join my WebKorner Group. I think the project is worth while. I'm impressed with the computer time available to SETI. I just hope we find E.T. soon. My suggestion is keep listening and I'll keep crunching the numbers for you. Oh if no one has said it. I've got dibbs on a front row seat with we meet E.T. P-S if you need ISP services, let me know.
