Personal background
I'm a medical reporter by trade. I used to be an editor at CBS HealthWatch, until it closed down last year. Now I freelance. I've written for WebMD, Health.com, POZ magazine, Salon, and others.

I'm also the editor of the Alicubi Journal: http://www.alicubi.com.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think extraterrestrial life exists. How can it not? It would be more amazing if the only sentient life in the universe were here on Earth--and sad, too. I have no idea how or when we will discover it, if we haven't already, as the MUFON people say.

If it discovers us, the scenario will probably play out like what happened on Lexx -- a plant will come to devour Earth, but a jealous robot head will blow up the planet instead.
