Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think E.T life exist. It will be statistically and of course logically almost
impossible to think that we are alone in an universe that scientists today agree is
infinite. How will we detect them? In two ways, I think. First by listening to
radio pulses like the SETI project and then if the E.Ts are very intelligent
they will show themselves to us.
I think we should send out beacons, I mean why not? What is there to loose? Nothing.
What is there to gain? Everything. But I expect the church and some fanatics to
be very sceptical since the Bible doesn´t say anything about aliens.
We should send out information about how we look and where we are located. But who
can tell which method to use? How can we be sure that some aliens will decipher our
signals?
The SETI@home is an excellent opportunity for us laymen to participate in the project
and to easen the burden for the poor supercomputers.
