Profile: Scott Sloan

Personal background
I live in the metro New York City area and work in the theater business. My hobbies are writing original music, poetry and fiction, and learning... about almost anything. The Science Times is my favorite section in the NY Times, and has even inspired some of my writing. I will have a web site soon, as soon as I teach myself a bit more HTML, and that address will be www.scottsloan.net. There will be, as yet, no science pages, as I only have a laymans fascination for qualifications, but I will link anything that grabs me...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that there must be some type of life out there, although the form that that life might take boggles the imagination. As to when or how we will discover it, I wouldn't even hazard a guess... The universe is much too diverse for me to try and predict anything that it might throw at us. My most prominent impression is that mankind is probablly the embarressing hick relative from the outer sticks, that everyone knows about, but nobody really wants to go and visit them, and it's not very polite to even talk about them in proper company... Keeping that in mind, I think that we might, with extreme humility, try and contact others.
