Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? As big as the universe is,why would we be the only inhabitants?
How will we discover it? By actively seeking them out.
What are the possible benefits? Knowledge, a different view on the same thngs,
maybe even cures, new inventions, all geared( I would hope,)to helping mankind.
and dangers of such a discovery? Knowledge can be abused, whether by us or against us.
Why do you run SETI@home? To teach my children that the world is bigger than
we imagine,to heat up our bedrooms(seattle is cold this time of year),and hoping someday to prove that "We are not alone"
What are your views about the project? I think that this,as well as all d.c. projecs, teaches us to work together as a team.Would the results be as achievable without the people working as a team? Also the competition to work together toward a common goal, makes me realize what a remarkable achievement d.c. projects really are.
