Personal background
I am a 27 year old systems engineer in MA, I have been married for almost 3 years and I help run the online community JEC.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that there is life elsewhere besides Earth. The other life will let themselves be known to us when they feel that we are mature enough as a species.
The benefits are that we could learn alot from other lifeforms the big one being intergalatic travel. The downside being that explorers are not always friendly and peacefull.
We should transmit some kind of beacon for other life to find, but it should only have the human sexes and all the different life that exists on earth.
I run seti@home so I feel I am doing my part as a human to help prove that we are not alone in this galaxy and the universe.
I feel the project is a great idea, but I do feel that our current technology may be too primitive for an alien race that may have mastered faster than light speed to pick up on our tranmissions. I am not going to even try to make a suggestion because this stuff is probably way over my head.
