Personal background |
I am a Student of AstroPhysics at UNISA. I'm 23 years old and I still live in South Africa.
The SETI@home group I belong to is "Star Control" which is the name of the computer game that got me interested
in astronomy. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I do not believe that eti exists, but won't kill myself if I'm proven wrong.
If i am proven wrong the dangers of such a discovery will far outweigh any benefits, because
an extraterrestrial species will probably be the species on their planet that could survive the
evolutional race and could build superior starfaring technology.
As alluded to above, I do not believe a beacon should be sent because even if most extraterrestrial species
are beneighn, the odd one could not be and if our location and information about our phisiology are transmitted
we could get wiped out by extraterrestrials who see us as a threat or a slave race.
SETI@home began as a way of getting status in the Star Control ring, but since has evolved
to a hardcore processor only hobby. |
