Personal background |
I'm a 41 year old Computer Tech from the midwest. I have been interested in space travel since I was a little kid watching the Apollo missions. I have a 4 1/2" reflector telescope that I don't get to use nearly as often as I'd like to. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I believe that life has developed on other planets whole heartedly. The odds are in favor of it. They say that circumstance for life to develope are something like 1 in 100,000,000 .... Well there are probably a 100 million stars in our own galaxy and 100s of millions of galaxies out there, so you do the math.
Will finding evidence of ET be of any benefit? Probably not. We are limited too much by phyisics to be able to take advantage of any meaningful contact.
Should we transmit a beacon? Well, intentionally? No, but we have been unintentionally since radio and TV transmissions began in earnest in the 40s and 50s.
I run SETI@home simply because I believe life does exist out there and when we find evidence of it, I believe technology will advance in an effort to learn more about them. |
