Personal background
[Quote]:"You could tell us where you're from, your age, occupation (...)"[End quote] - well, here goes..:

I'm a cargo agent out of Krefeld, Germany and currently 32 years of age (as of April 2002 - I was born on January 5th, 1970).
My job as well as my wife and kid do not leave me with much of a spare time, but the tiny bits of it that I can collect are usually spend as a voluntary red cross technician - which, of course, in turn means that my computer does not get as much attention as I would like it do. Therefor, there's plenty of idle time to be filled by SETI@home...

If you want to know more, then check out my personal pages at http://Riemann.info/Axel. That's where you will also get the last info on how to get in touch with me...

Anyway - Live long and prosper !

Cheers,
Axel
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Has anybody seen "MIB" ..?
Well, that's where they say "They're beautiful, aren't they. We just don't look at them anymore...the stars..."

Have you looked at the stars recently..?
One could spend his or her entire lifetime just trying to count them - one would not finish the task...
Millions of stars in the universe; it's almost impossible to believe that this little derelict piece of rock we call "earth" should be the only place in the universe inhabited by (more or less) intelligent life forms.
So, basically, the question is not "Is there anybody out there?", but instead more like "Do they really want to talk to us?".

After all, the intelligent life form of this third planet lives in the world's oceans - with no means to communicate with other planets.
Instead, this planet is inhabited by a semi-intelligent species that brought to live such things as the A-bomb, talkshows and Osama bin Laden - what could possibly bring an intelligent extra-terrestrial life form to communicate with our species..?

Well, that's where, in my opinion, SETI@home comes along. Maybe this project is our chance to prove that we're not as bad as our reputation.
And maybe SETI will, eventually, build the bridge to truly intelligent life forms that are not from this world, but well from the same corner of our galaxy...

Just remember: "Two things in life are endless: the universe and mankind's madness. But I'm not sure about the universe..." (Albert Einstein)
