Profile: The Pretender

Personal background
I was born and raised in southern California, a self-effacing savant of protean capabilities, and am interested in cars, comedy, computers, and controversy. Among other things, I maintain various web sites, the most important of which is that of the Institute for Historical Review (http://www.ihr.org). As a result of my association with the IHR, I am now a "thought criminal" in several countries around the world, and could be arrested on setting foot in Israel, Germany, Britain, Spain, Switzerland. Didn't it seem, for a few years there, as if the human race was making progress? Ah, well. Those times are long gone now, I'm afraid. Perhaps what we really need is a SEI project -- Search for Earthly Intelligence. My hobbies are genealogy and tennis.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While I think that the possibility of finding intelligent life outside of Earth is very, very small, I also think that we must search, as we search for clues to any number of other current mysteries. We may never find the answers, but our failure is guaranteed if we don't even try.
