Personal background
Hi there! My name is Øyvind, and I'm a 17 years old boy from Oslo, Norway. I currently attend the second year of the Norwegian high school, and next year I'll be a senior! After completing high school I want to study computer and/or electronic science and become an engineer. It'll take me 6 years to finish the subject, but I'm quite sure that this is what I want. Computers and especially the hardware is one of my biggest interests! Among the other interests are snowboarding, partying and generally to have fun!

If there's (for some reason) something you want to ask me about, feel free to send me an e-mail!

(and no: we don't have polar bears running around in the streets up here! (even though it gets quite cold sometimes=) )

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My opinions about SETI...well.. let's see.. I'm in fact quite sure that somehow, somewhere there's life in the universe, other than us. It just seems to amazing that we're the only lucky ones among the insane amount of stars and planets out there! But, I'm not sure we'll ever find out. If we do, I think it must be a coincidence or something... I mean...there's quite a lot of space, and finding a planet with signs of life can't be that easy! I think that if we manage to establish contact with extraterrestrial life, and we manage to communicate with them, it will be a great benefit for us. Surely they have discovered things that we wouldn't even dream about. And, of course it might be the other way around aswell!

The idea of transmitting a beacon is in fact quite appealing to me. I don't really believe in the armageddon stories or anything, so I believe that if we transmit a becon and others find us, we will benefit from it. When it comes to what kind, I really don't have any idea. But I'm sure we'll think of something :)

Primarily I run SETI@home to test the speed of my computer :), but the thought of the fact that perhaps I'm contributing to finding extraterrestrial life!
I think it's an important project we're participating in!
