Profile: Geof F. Morris

Personal background
I am a senior aerospace engineering student at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, but my future vocation is likely in the ordained ministry of The United Methodist Church. [Don't worry, it confuses my friends and family, too.] I've served as Chief Editor for TOTK.com Sports as well as Vice-President and other positions in UAH's Student Government Association. My interests lie in studying Protestant Christian theology, baseball, open source programming, and learning to do with less sleep.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As you might guess from my space/religion background, my interest in slipping the surly bonds of earth is not only escapist but experiential. When I first found out about SETI@home from a friend my freshman year at UAH, I was anxious to run it, seeing as I had a computer in my dorm room that went unused while I was in class.

I run SETI@home mainly because I think distributed computing is an interesting concept and also because I find the prospect of extraterrestrial life rather fascinating. I would be foolish to think that God wouldn't consider placing Life on other planets...I'm not one for limiting God's powers in a logical or theological sense. =) I'm not sure that there's anyone else out there, but what does it hurt to check? Significant advances in life on earth have come from our study of space. We should continue down that path.
