Personal background
36y/o male, small business owner. I seriously think that I was born about 500 years too soon, when it comes to the level that technology has progressed so far.

The picture is of my youngest of four ferrets at 7 weeks old. She will be 1 yr end of Feb. 03.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There has to be something or someone else out there besides us.

I think we are pushing our luck a bit trying to find them. I am sure that we will find it too soon.

I don't really see any benefits if we were to meet ET at this time. This world is still too immature.
If there is intelligent life out there, then there is the chance that they are far more technologically advanced than us. And if they are we better hope that they are friendly.
But then we have to think of the attitudes of the people of THIS world; the sheer ignorance of the people here could very well throw us into a war that we are definitely not ready to fight.
Then there are hate groups like the kkk. With the way they treat their own kind (human kind), could you imagine what they would do to ET.
So I seriously think that this world needs to grow up before finding any thing or any one else out there.

It's a little late to think about transmitting a beacon for others to find us.
If there is intelligent life out there and they pick up on & decipher the radio and TV signals we have been transmitting all these years, what will they think of us when they see and hear Hitler's speeches, or even the kkk rallies and their broadcasts.

Those are some kind of role models for ET, and one heck of a first impression to give.

I run SETI@home because I always wanted to work in some area of Astronomy/Space Science of some kind. But since I never could get into any of it because of the jerks that are already there thinking that I was trying to get in to steal their jobs, I will just have to settle for this.

SETI is a great effort, but I don’t think that the people of this world have grown up enough to responsibly and respectfully handle meeting or even finding ET.

Here is my only suggestion.
Keep it to yourselves if you find something; at least until the world grows up.
