Personal background
I live in Connecticut and have been doing this SETI thing for a few years. Until about a month ago, I wasn't very active with SETI, but decided to dedicate my unused PCs (four of them) to the SETI project while they weren't doing anything else. I've been using PCs for several years and design software for a living using C and Java. I'm also into designing web sites using Photoshop and 3D animations and graphics using Lightwave. My wife and I are also Disney nuts (http://www.wdwpix.com) and love space oriented rides.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there are aliens out there, we just have to find 'em. One of these days, one of the SETI PCs will hear a "hello" from an alien and we'll all soon be having them over for dinner. I do think that we should transmit some sort of signal into space for others to find/hear. Although we never know who'd reply (i.e. a race of aliens that enjoy eating humans for lunch), I think it is worth a shot. In my lifetime (I'm 34 right now), I hope we do find life out there. Because I'd like to find life in space, I've decided to allocate a few of my 3D rendering PCs to the SETI effort when I'm not rendering 3D animations. Right now, I average about 10 work units a day from the machines and plan to add a few more to the queue.
