Personal background
I was born in 1961 in Norway, near Oslo, but moved to England in 1984 to further my education with a degree in MicroElectronics and MicroProcessor Applications. Currently I live with my wife and three children in Whitley Bay near Newcastle upon Tyne in NorthEast of England where I run my own electronics company which manufactures custom passive electronic components for applications ranging from Commercial through Automotive, Medical and into Military and Aerospace.

I stumbled over SETI@Home in September of 2000, probably I had seen some comments on TV or a movie, and started crunching Classic until I transfered to BOINC in July 2004.

In 2012 I changed to a Dell X18M Alienware which should ramp up the throughput for us mere 'normal' SETI members with feet on the ground and not up in the stratosphere of the professional SETI Crunchers.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I started with SETI@Home Classic out of curiosity .. I have always been interested in space exploration and research, probably more interested in hearing about the discoveries than taking an active part, but thought that it would be interesting to help out with this project.

I believe it would be very arrogant of us to think that our little planet Earth is the only one with intelligent life in our Universe. However, WHEN we detect intelligent life in another 'world', then it will throw up some serious, and probably dangerous, issues with regards to our established beliefs. I hope that common sense will then prevail and that no one are hurt when any fanatical individuals or groups will want to suppress such discoveries in order to protect their static beliefs.

BOINC projects in which I participate all work well. I can now load up my computer with enough workunits that I can crunch data when I am away on business and unable to connect to internet as freely as I can at home., something that was impossible for me when I crunched SETI@Home Classic.
