I graduated from the University of West Alabama in May of 1997 and have watched Star Trek all my life. I am currently a police/fire/rescue dispatcher with the City of Lincoln in Alabama.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that there has to be life on other planets and that we are not alone in this universe. We would like to think that there is room for everyone to live and grow on this finite planet, so why couldn't that be true of something as infinitely large as the universe?
The benefits of perhaps finding an alien technology would be enormous. There would be new technological advances, as well as medical even political advances to investigate... the only downside perhaps is how "terrestrial" our thinking might be and the panic and fear of meeting something so "alien" to ourselves that might ensue. We are still a long way from learning to respect other humans... it might take the finding of an alien species to finally bring us together.
