Profile: Taylor

Personal background
The Agriculutral and Industrial Revolutions brought us unprecedented prosperity, yet we are still a very fragile species. The dinosaurs ruled for millions of years - we've ruled for a few thousand. Nothing says we can't wipe ourselves out.

"Socialism collapsed because it did not allow prices to tell the economic truth. Capitalism may collapse because it does not allow prices to tell the ecological truth." Oystein Dahle, former VP of Esso for Norway

I'm moving toward being incrementally sustainable. Not overnight but slowly I'm getting there. My website (http://www.geocities.com/mtaylor12345) has the details.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The universe is awfully vast. Pioneer 10, launched in 1972, has exited our solar system but won't get to the nearest star for another 10 million years. Radio waves emitted this morning have already passed Pioneer 10. If there are ETs, SETI's program is the most likely way to discover them. Even if we receive contact, sending a message back will take hundreds of years for them to receive our reply. Will we even be around to receive their reply to our reply?
