Personal background |
I was born in 1969, and a few months after this the first of the Apollo moon landings took place (Apollo 11). I have always had a strong interest in the Space Program and read tons of books on Space history to current events. I hope one day I can actually work at mission control in Texas, though this is a dream. I would also love to be present at a launch and landing before I die.
Besides space, I like to hike in the mountains, and I do some spelunking of local mines and to caves around the U.S. Some of my favorite caves are Carlsbad Caverns and Wind and Jewel caves. Other interests include music. I played the Trumpet for over 7 years, and love just about all music made (minus rap and country). I also love movies that are well written & are well shot. Favorite TV Shows include Bablyon 5, Battle Star Galatica (new one), Firefly, & Stargate.
I also started programming when I was 12, starting with a TI 99/4A computer system, and upgrading through the Atari line until finally getting my toes wet in the PC world in 1992, Since then I have released several freeware titles, and ran a BBS for years, after the Internet killed the BBS world I turned to Web Design, mainly internal sites for company use. I have used more OS's than most people can think of, and recently I have changed my primary OS to OS X as it seems better suited for my photography, and as I like working with Unix it seems a better fit.
I was married to Debra on 12 January 1991, and we have 2 children, Jim and Lee. But the family doesn't stop there. With 1 dog (Bingo) 3 cats (Milkshake, Coal, Neko) this house hold is one interesting place.
Other interests not mentioned: Art, Sketching, and Photography. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. Why do I run SETI? Hard to say I think partly because I like things that are "underdogs", finding ET therefore is right up my alley. I think another reason is I've always wanted to make a difference, and so far I don't think that I've done that. Being part of Seti gets my name into something that is trying to make a difference whether we find something or not at least in a small part I'm doing what I've always wanted.
2. What are my views on the project? Again it's a bit hard for me to explain. I understand both sides of the fence when I little to people argue if this is a waste of resources or not, or even if we're going about this the right way. I think overall though as long as we are trying that speaks volumes for what type of people we are.
3. Any Suggestions? none that I can think of. |
