I do believe there is a higher life form out there. As a race we can't be ignorant enough to really think that we are the only intelligent life form in the universe. If it was true then God help us! As for the benifits and dangers, well that's hard to narrow down, there are so many possibilities out there, (mo pun intended!) that it's hard to predict. There are the obvious like technology, medical and can't forget weapons!
I do believe that we should transmit something out there. It at least shows that we want to communicate. I always hoped that the small probe we sent several years back, (I think it was one of the Voyagers), had the recordings and drawings on it would have been found by someone and they are courious about us too. The content of the message we would send should include not only all the wonders and achievements of the human race but also the tradgedies and evils. This way whomever gets our message would realize that we are not perfect but we are trying.
A program like SETI is rare and of actual use! I'll never be a major scientist but at least this way I can do my part. |
