Profile: Charles L Durrwachter

Personal background
I am a 64 year old, semi retired Chemical Engineer who lives in Ponchatoula Louisiana. My hobbies are many and varied but most focus around science and math; such as astronomy, computers, complex models of plant operations and equipment performance. I also develop specialty databases in FileMaker Pro. Next year will mark my 40th year working and programming computers. Other interest: Photography, movie making [digital], and music recording. All amateur level.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When I started running Seti@home in 1999 it was because I was interested in lending a hand. With several computers just burning away 24/7, and my utility usage typically small it seemed like a good use of the assets. The project has grown and with that growth suffered the pains of such growth. However with the diversity of new projects it seemed to diminish the focus that once inspired me to join.

Suggestion? A little competitive spirit based on who is contributing. Segregation of multi project contributors from single would reflect more accurately on the contributors efforts as well. Also Individuals versus teams or corporate contributions would be enlightening. Paying greater detail to contributors statistics and updating them more often on stat boards would stimulate greater incentive to add or improve hardware and or software to the effort. Just a suggestion.
