Personal background
I am a 19-year-old Macintosh user soon to be a college student. I just joined Team Apple Computer, Inc. Macintoshes have always been a hobby of mine, and I figured that when I'm away, I might as well put a few cycles to use while I'm not using mine. Only God knows how badly you guys need them to analyze all that radio mess out there.

I live in the jungle of Parker, Colorado (South Metro Denver) with my Macintosh Yosemite G3 which is running @ 350MHz. Yeah, not exactly a competitor with one of those new dual-G4s, but it helps, right?

Outdoors, is cool, people are cool, space is very cool, and tinkering with computers and electronics is cool.

Good luck to all helping in the search!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial life does exist. The question: How the hell are we supposed to find out? With such a vast space surrounding us, and all of the unfathomable possibilities out there, who knows what we will or will not come across? For all we know, most extraterrestrial life would probably not even have the slightest idea what radio waves are, or they could also be so far ahead of us that light-speed communications would look obsolete and foolish to use as a beacon. We also have to consider the vastness of time surrounding us. An alien planet could be dead, or swallowed by a star gone nova by the time we receive a RADIO signal that they send.
-One thing I worry about is the effect of two alien life forms on another. It could be wonderful; it could also be disastrous. What if aliens had the same thought that they might actually harm us by coming in contact with us? That could explain why some people think they see aliens and UFOs, but they don't exactly come out of their ships to say "what's up." If you think about how quickly we've advanced in our technologies, think about how much time another alien race would have had to develop their technologies far enough to master inter-stellar travel. Maybe they already found us, and we didn't even have to try. They may just be smart enough to know not to mess with an entire culture that may not be able to fully accept and handle their own existence. Just a thought.
-Personally, the thing to really pay attention to these days on the subject of alien contact is all of the science fiction scenarios that are out there. Arthur C. Clarke and Gene Roddenberry are a couple of my favorite creators of some science fiction stories that deal with the human struggle to contact and experience other species of life in the universe. I say, keep dreaming! Just 'cuz you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there...
-It's just so neat! It's like staring into the night sky, but with a different eye. Instead of seeing stars, I see T.V. static. Yeah, scary thought.
