Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. Mathematicly, there must be life somewhere outside the Earth. However, it might just be a plant or even a single-cell life-form and not the alien like creatures we see in movies. If we discover such life, it would probably be by mistake (like most of the things the human race has discovered).
2. I don't think transmiting a beacon would help much, because:
A. There is just too much noise is space for someone to notice us.
B. If the extraterrestrials are just plants or cell - it won't do much good.
C. If there are aliens that could recive the transmition, it would take them too long to get here (if there is such a posibility). And even if they could get here fast enough - why should they? We would be too "stupid" for them.
3. I run SETI@home because I like the idea that my computer can do something even when I'm not, and scaning the sky for signal from outside the Earth sounded interesting enough. |
