Personal background
I'm 28 from Lombard, IL (just outside Chicago, IL), interests include using the Internet, skydiving and TEACHING!!!

SETI is currently running on a Pentium 4 with 1GB of PC4200 memory and a P4 3.4GHz laptop with 1GB of memory.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I found SETI@home from my now ex-boss, before SETI I was running distributed.net program to crack the 56bit RSA security code. SETI@home is so much more interesting, so I started running it instead.

I think the SETI@home project is more then just looking for ET. It's the fact that SETI@home is a distributed computing platform. SETI@home collectively is the World’s biggest, and fastest SUPERCOMPUTER ever known to man! Look at the collective stats on the computing power, as of today: 62.58 TeraFLOPs/sec that's unheard of!

As far as ET I don't know; society as a whole wants to believe in the unknown, but at the same time is scared of it. I personally think it would be very interesting to find ET, not just for the novelty of it, but to see how others communicate, and learn how we as a race can improve or learn from them.

I personally don't believe there are any dangers in such a discovery, the benefits are listed above, and we could learn so much from another race. I'm one of those that don't believe race is the same thing as ethnicity; we are all part of the HUMAN race!

I definitely believe we should transmit a signal for others to find, after all why should this be one sided if indeed there is someone or something out there!
