Profile: Jacques

Personal background
My name's Jacques, I'm german and I live in Basel, between the three countries Switzerland, France and Germany. I'm Student in Art History and Media Sciences, 31 and I love Movies and being with my friends. I'm fascinated by the world wide web, by this big global community which only exists online, no borders, no countries - just human beings. I think, seti is one of those projects who use the real meaning and power of the web. Another project was napster, who has been destroyed by the industry. Napster was more than sharing of mp3, it was a free community.
The idea of searching extraterrestrial life by using the computer power of humans from all over the world is just great, and I really hope this project is going to succeed!
Anything else about me...well, I love europe, buddhism, music and movies, france, paris and being in love, wine and good food, sushi, dogs, my mac and different types of media like games, web, tv, magazines, newspapers etc.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure extraterrestrial exists! I don't believe in Gods and the Universe is really "big". I think humans will discover it by accident, sure, seti gives us a better chance, but we still need a lot of luck. Maybe they are just in the nearest galaxy, maybe they are x lightyears away and their signals are millions of years old when they arrive at our planet.
Benefits - we'll finally understand, that we are one people on earth, not hundreds of different countries. That our planet is not so important, that it is part of a very big system, that WE are not so important. Maybe humans feel closer to each other, but that's very idealistic (:
Dangers - I have no idea, if they would come to earth, they are possibly to complicated to understand for us. The results of a missunderstanding would be dangerous for both. Perhaps their life is farther than ours and evolution just erases the old life-system on earth.

Why not, we should send information about are culture, language, music, pictures, film, art, and of course scientific theories. And a map to find our planet.

It's a great possibility to increase the speed of your computer power, so if there are any signals, we get a chance to find them. I'm sure, you, we will find something out there. The new processor units are getting faster and faster, a few years and our computers are at least a thousand times faster. So your worldwide computing power will grow amazingly - and our chance to find something will grow in the same way...I wish you good luck, and go on! never give up, you are pioneers.
