Personal background
I was surfin' the web when I found this website called DragonNeo, there I found links to several different dragons and their work. One of the links I found here was a link to SETI@home. I thought to myself "self, y not try this out? Your pc runs all the time anyway, y not have it search for aliens?" So, I downloaded it and am happy to say that It keeps my computer busy with signals from deep space. (rather than with random pop-ups) I'm going to UT Tyler with a major in Computer Science. I like to (try to anyway) draw dragons. Much of the time, it's just doodles during class.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extra terrestrial life exists? Yes, to take a quote from "Contact"; if is just us, it's an awful waste of space. I just hope anyone we meet don't turn out to be like the guys from Independence Day (I'm sure they wouldn't)
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? Why not? It couldn't hurt. If others are looking for us, it's more likely that they would hear us before we heard them. As for what we should send, I think anything would work as long as it doesn't seem to be harsh or obscene in anyway. (That HAS to rule out daytime talk shows, soap operas, and infomercials)
Why do I run SETI@home? It gives the guys down at the stations listening for little green men more time to listen than spend it on analyzing piles of data.
