I live in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado with my wife, 3 cats and a dog. I have been a computer nut ever since PC's started coming out, and (I am afraid) am just getting worse. I have 3 PC's on all day (out of the 5 in the house), and rather than waste all that good processing power, have them running SETI. One of these is a 500Mhz Alpha (DEC) Pesonal Work Station, now running OpenVMS 7.3-1. On average, this machine outruns my two Intel's that both have faster processers.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think we are fooling ourselves if we believe that we are alone in the universe. With the vastness of space, I would be hard pressed to believe otherwise. And, just because water is needed for our existance, who is to say that there isn't another species that lives on something else. Whether we can find in through SETI (or any other way, for that matter) is another question, but “It can’t hurtâ€.
Besides, it’s kind of fun to watch that cool screensaver.
