Profile: Jim Huggins

Personal background
I managaged a financial institution for 33 years and retired in November 2002. Computing, weight lifting, photography and golf are some of my main interests. My goal is to bench press 300 pounds. I'm 35 pounds away from my goal.

The vastness of the universe has always fascinated me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that life exists elsewhere. It is well we are so far apart based on how well we get along on this planet. We are not ready to meet our neighbors until we evolve more.

Our intolerance for other humans who think different or look different would pale at the reaction to an alien life form. One can only imagine how governments, religions and the general public would react to the discovery of other life forms. The amount of posturing, explaining and refusal to believe would be fascinating to watch.

Sending a beacon should be a part of the search. The beacon should be some simple patterns readily identified as not background noise.

Running SETI@home allows me to participate in a wonderful worldwide project.

The project is a wonderful way to allow many of us to work together.
