I'm currently a doctoral student in business administration. I spent seventeen years in industry before returning to school - so I'm not the typical strudent.
I enjoy reading. Science fiction, fantasy are favorites but I'll read about anything. I also enjoy cooking and working in the garden.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe there is extraterrestrial life. I'm not sure when and how we will discover it, nor I'm I sure we haven't already been discovered (The truth is out there?).
While there are any number of possible benefits of contact from a technological standpoint, there are a number of risks from a social one. A review of our own history is not comforting that more technologically advanced civilizations are kind to less developed ones.
I don't think we should send out a beacon. We are not ready. We can't even get along among ourselves. We need to grow more as a group before we go looking for others.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
