Hello, my name is Jay. My title, "Lord of the Dark Dominion", came from a dream I had. I'm a 25 year old white male American citizen/combat veteran. Seti@home is a great concept that I'm glad to be a part of. I'm nocturnal by nature, but I can survive in daylight if I have to (and no.. I don't bite).
Here's a little info about me..
Occupation: College Student/Army National Guard
Hobbies: reading non-fiction, watching movies, using computers, radio scanners, keeping up with current news and international relations
Political Views: pro-citizen privacy and freedom, pro-small government, pro-military, pro-choice, I'm for strict adherence to the concept of separation of church and state, pro-4th amendment, pro-flat tax rate*, undecided on legalizing marijuana.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life because it's far more logical than the idea that out of the universe, only Earth holds living organisms. We realized we weren't the center of the universe, we realized our world is not flat, it's time to take the next step and realize we are almost assuredly not alone in the dark expanse of space.
I think it's a little premature for us to be actively transmitting beacons to other civilizations, I'd prefer we reach a reasonable technological plateau in space colonization/transportation before we attempt to advertise our existence.
I do, however, think we should be listening for other civilizations out there, because knowledge is power. I run SETI@home because finding communications from extraterrestrial life could also be the catalyst for a golden age of space exploration and technological advancements.
I would suggest allowing group message boards to facilitate a more interactive community for SETI enthusiasts. |
