Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
ET life definitely exists (take my neighbor, for example), but I am still looking for the (I)ntelligence part of it.
And what do you know - SETI comes along with a plan that makes average people feel like real contributors. Definitely better that trying to get my ET neighbor drunk and beat him over the head with miniature UFOs
(ToysRUs - $24.99)in an attempt to make him communicate.
I think that we should send no information into space.
Announcing ourselves to Borg, or some other macho beings (just ask captain Kirk - he will tell you!) would not be good.
Instead, let's just spy on these guys, listen to their long-distance gossip, and stay low. We have enough problems as it is.

I have 3 PCs working for seti@home, and occasional CPU time at work.

Suggestions about seti@home?
1. Tip for windows users: the command line version of seti software is almost twice as fast as the screensaver one. Download it, create shortcut and place the shortcut in the Startup folder. There you have it - your productivity increased dramatically and you can still have any screen saver you want.
2. Too much pink and purple in your screen saver. Have you checked the gender distribution of seti@home users? You need COOLER screen saver (with a scientific touch, of course). You will gain many more contributors.
