Personal background
Hello, I live in Dublin, California which is 35m east of San Francisco. (Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana) I'm 33, and a programmer/analyst at the large software company, Sybase. I also play music professionally. I've played bass all over the country for Broadway musicals and in blues and rock bands. I also enjoy playing classical piano (although I have yet to do that professionally). I get my programming inspiration by playing video games. I've lived here for over 3 years now, and I'm happily married to a wonderful person, Irina! Say hi sometime. I like to chat using yahoo messenger. My ID there is dabrooks.geo thanks!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think life exists out there. How we'll discover it is a more difficult question, but we'll never find it unless we're looking! I bet our 'first contact' will be the result of a more advanced planet finding us. Since we're not in the center of the Milky Way, I think it may be a while before that happens, but let's be optimistic! Possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery? I think the only danger is losing our cultural identity as we become more involved in a larger society, but I don't care too much about that. There are many good things about this kind of discovery. We need all the help we can get! I think we should send the most powerful beacon we can send, as I feel like we are collectively stranded on a desert island in the ocean of the universe. What information should we send? We should send an plea for a response and a message of peace and harmony. Suggestions? I suppose I would suggest that they find as many uses for the saved data as possible. And, I think they should use Sybase databases! haha thanks
