Profile: Michael Blättler

Personal background
I am 35 years old and live in Switzerland, Wettingen AG. I work as educationist in social work areas. But already as a child I dreamed and was sure we are not alone - cannot be alone. It's not logical. This meaning continued till today. I like Science Fiction in many ways - but only the older ones with the charm of idealism or the critical ones which want to warn us. So I am not a fan of E.T., but Star Trek and similar series are okay.

I also like the possibilites of computers and roboters, I'm trying to be up to date in this way. I'm also very interested in psychology and philosophy, like nature, but I would be glad to live in a city.

I was born in the zodiac sign of capricorn, so I live for reality, pragmatism and reviewable research.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For me it's a fact that extraterrestrial life exists. I cannot believe that such a immense place like our universe brings only one lifeform. But, perhaps we are searching for wrong signals. For me it's possible that alien lifeforms could life or communicate in unknown ways. We don't know, but I am waiting and hoping. The discovery of an other lifeforms could be a chance for us to review our standards and further our tolerance - if the lifeform did the same... I think we are searching because we don't want to be alone in the dark, but I am not sure that a beacon for others will be the right way. It's better to find than to be find. If we decide to send a signal, it's important to show cultural and social forces to avoid wrong meanings. Better standing for our defects...
