Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there is a possibility there could be something out there, hard to imagine we are the only ones in the universe! I feel that the program we are working with will help to find something - along with other kinds of searching. the possible benifits could be that we - and them could learn a lot about each other and our planets that we live on. Possible dangers could be that they won't be friendly and we could have a real "Independance day" situation.
As for transmitting a beacon - it would help others find us. And we should tell them about us and our planet.
I run the Seti program in hopes my information will help with the project. I feel it is a good idea so we can at least be aware if there is something out there and not be taken by surprise!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
