Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, life is out there. We might be too far on the edge to be interesting, or we might be a quarantined bit of dirt on the median of an intergalatic super highway. The truth of it will probably be stranger than we can imagine.

Should we transmit beacons? Absolutely Not. Did explorers advertise each step through the jungle with the squeal of bagpipes? No, they listened very carfully...as SETI@Home is doing. Although I am sure reruns of Lucy are very popular within 45 light years.
