Personal background
Not too much I can say about myself. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska, a poor and underpaid manager at a major office supply retailer. My machine that I run is a Windows XP Professional system, running on dual Athlon MP 1900's (which run at 1.6GHz each), 512MB RAM, and roughly 64GB of space across my three hard drives.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've been doomed by mathematics where my SETI@home average is concerned. Due to my recent upgrade, my computer can now process a single SETI@home work unit in roughly 4 hours, 40 minutes. However, since I've racked up so many hours on my previous systems, my average per work unit won't be down to 5 hours until I've processed 28,321 work units. That means, that if I let SETI@home run for 16 hours a day, seven days a week, I'll hit 28,321 in a little over 24 years. Or, if I let it run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I'll hit it in just over 16 years. Or, I could buy 16 more computers just like the ones I have now, and have it over and done with in a year. But, I'd probably end up spending around $16,000 for those...and that's not in the cards anytime soon.
