Personal background
Hi there! My name is Francois Schaut and I am what you could call a proffesionalised hobbyist. Always had an interest in computers and the way they are used. I educated myself mostly, but just because the corporations like it I got a few IT certifications to my name. To those who are out there in the business, you know it means little to nothing, but I got them anyway. I used to live in Holland and just recently I moved to Mesa, Arizona. WOW, what a culture shock! It was like arriving from another planet and I certainly felt alien to the place. Now I have been a world travellor, getting myself into all sorts of research and exploration, after all, it's a big planet. But the universe is even bigger, what a tauntelising place! Through my interests in archaic history and lore I have come across many references to "alien visitors". Although I considder myself to have a sceintific mind that wants proof of fact I certainly can't proof that there is nothing out there. Statisticly the changes are greater that there is something out there then the contrarary....
One of the greatest gifts of the human mind is our curiousity. That has led many great minds to even greater discoveries. I just hope that we also can find the wisdom to be curious about the right things, to let our curiousity focus on life and creation and not on death and destruction...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
After stuffing my ASUS CUV4X-D into my suitcase and leaving Holland for what it is I finally settled down in Mesa Arizona. Got myself a case, keyboard and a monitor and pretty soon I was online again with both processors humming away. Now I'm not new to SETI@HOME, I had it on one of my previous PC's but lets be honest, a 166Mhz, 16 MB's with a 33k6 modem and having to pay every minit your online, I didn't even get a single file in... So when I rebuilded my system I figured that SETI@HOME would be the ultimate way to benchmark the overall system and contribute to sceince at the same time. Since I have installed SETI@HOME it has been running on the background every single day. The system doesn't seem to be hindered by it and everything just runs up to speed. I guess by the time I sent this profile I already started to do my 15th unit. Would it be cool if I would actually stumble on something one day? Anyways, the PC isn't just hybernating when I don't use it...It's listening, just like all those other members' PC's and maybe one day...

Untill then, greetings from a "legally registered alien"

Francois Schaut, Mesa, Az.
