Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I run SETI@Home because a) I'm interested in helping the scientific research as the successful completion of a thorough search for extra-terrestrial intelligence (of which SETI@Home is an important part), regardless of the result, would be the most remarkable discovery in human history, b) it's an interesting way to get some benchmark on a computer's abilities, and c) I can't stand wastefulness, and so if I've got these computers running anyway, they might as well be doing something productive.
2. This is an interesting project that probably needs some new data sources to continue much longer.
3. Try to branch out. Ask Aricebo to scan a broader range of frequencies and get other radio telescopes to contribute data that can't be had from Aricebo. Also, do other analyses of the existing data. |
