History

After about 10 years of working in the corporate world, usually as an MIS admin and programmer, I decided to strike out on my own, and start my own company. I write a lot of software, to date, over a 100 plus programs! After writing them if I have time, before next project, I put the up for sale on my web site:www.omnisoft.net

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti History - I started out, with a few PCs running Seti. Nothing spectacular. I installed Seti on one of my customers, now my boss. His enthusiasm, zest, and friendly competitive nature for Seti was unparalleled and frankly off-the-charts INSANE! But it launched me into taking the next step. I think I had 30 or so points after like 3 years of running Seti at various locations. Now with 12 plus computers, running 24/7 and friends running for me as well we are almost at 30 WU (Work Units) a DAY!and more everyday. To help distribute my efforts, I wrote a Seti auto-installer www.omnisoft.net/seti.htm which installs a pre-configured Seti! Our mission is to acquire 2001 Seti WUs this year!

Optimization Aid - Seti brings problems to Light having installed almost every version of Seti (3x !) I This has allowed me to optimally configure many PCs that I was unaware that even had a problem.

Utilize underutilized resources - Why not? Is all I am saying. I read somewhere that home computers are primarily just running screen savers 90% of the time. What a tremendous waste of resources!

Distributive/Distributive Processing - Wave of the future! "The most powerful computer, IBM's ASCI White, is rated at 12 TeraFLOPS & costs $110 million. SETI@home currently gets about 15 TeraFLOPs & has cost $500K so far." Let's get behind this wonderful & ambitious project!

Neo@Home - I am currently working on another project called neo@home that will parallel and maybe someday join w the Seti efforts. It will collect & use users PCs to process data for NEO's (Near Earth Objects) as well as other for processes.

Future Plans - In the near future, this year, We hope to build monster Seti machines. 10 Seti arrays. Each, rack mounted 20 slot passive back-planes, 14 PCI plugable motherboards with QUAD symmetrical 1.2Ghz> CPUs running BEOS OS. And finally, what if it works...HEHE! What a hallmark establish the first signs of intelligent life.
WOW is all I am saying!
