Personal background
Hi, i'm 39 and i live in a place called Douglas, Isle of Man. I'm an electrical engineer and work in the power generation industry. I'm also into Amateur Radio, my "ham" callsign is GD0TEP. I've used meteors, or "shooting stars" for what is called "meteor scatter" as an aid to contacting other radio stations on VHF around europe, and i've also used the moon as a passive reflector for contacting other stations around the world on 50mhz, 144mhz and 432mhz. This would be called "moon bounce" or EME (earth-moon-earth)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, ET is out there somewhere. I've no idea how we will eventually make the connection, but i'd like to hope i'll still be around when it happens. Not sure what the benefits would be to making contact, i guess one of the main reasons of looking is to fing out that we're not alone.
As to a beacon.... My own opinion is that it's already happening. Be it TV or radio stations who are transmitting pictures and music, or, as Radio Hams who purposefully transmit high ERP signals towards the moon (only 2% of that signal hits the moon, the rest just carries on going....)
I run "seti@home" because i feel that i'm helping the search with what i have available. And, every little helps. You never know, it maigh just be my "data unit" that confirms a signal....
As to suggestions.... Sure, what ever happens, don't give up!
Regards, to all.
