Personal background
Hy,

I'm a 25 year old IT-Professional, currently living in Munich/Germany.
Because i spent a lot of money in upgrading my machine, let it running on idle seems like waste of money. I paid for my CPU, so why shouldn't i use it :-)

There is nothing more about me to tell.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Generally i believe in the existance of extraterrestrial lifeforms.

Even intellegent ones. But i'm not quite sure, wether we will discover them.
First of all our 'methods' of scanning might be obsolete. Of course, there ist the 1.42GHz-Band nearly free of any disturbing emittance, but radio signals take as long as the light.
Even if we catch a signal, how do you know how to decode it? What if it is only 1% of a compressed data transmission? It would be useless, ok, it would show the presence.

To discover them, we need a extraterrestrial species which wants to establish contact to other species. And i'm not quiet sure, wether human species is treated as 'intellegent' from their point of view.

If they really want to communicate, they should transmit data, containing technical specs about a more efficient form of communication...
