Personal background
Good day all...

My name is Ray Spaulding. I am 31 years old and am a carpenter by trade and a systems/network administrator by practice...lol. I have a MS W2KServer at my home that is the culmination of all of my free time. It has progressed WAY beyond a hobby and expanded to include a fully secure network with 5 computers spread throughout the house for my significant other and our three boys.

Due to the children, and because it's VERY cool, I've recently begun to run a Counter-Strike Server from my home for all of us and some of our online friends. This has turned out to be a LOT more work than I anticipated but so does everything else I do with computers.

I got screwed by my ISP service last week. It's noteworthy due to the situation I was put in by my ISP. The name, I'm not coy, thepipeline.net disabled my account access one day stating that I use the service too much. This would not be so out of place except that I have been an UNLIMITED dial-up user of this ISP for over two years, (obviously, no cable here yet). I argued that my service was unlimited and that what they were stating was an impossibility due to the description of my account--UNLIMITED!!!

They thought they could just disable my at nights without me bucking the system. I ranted and raved for a bit on the phone and was left with them standing their ground and telling me it was that way or the highway. I took the highway. So, thanks to earthlink.net, I am back online after a short recess and I am warry of the word unlimited when it comes to ISP services.

The lawyer said that a class action suit was all I could do and it wouldn't bring about any results. I didn't want them as an ISP and they continue to do business as usual in the aftermath of what they did to me. Beware of the small ISP services. They got me and it cost me over two years of email accounts that had to be changed when I lost my account. Including this one on Seti@home.

I wish you all better luck than I had and I hope that this little story helps o
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
First off, yes. They IS an ET and we will someday come to meet these intellegent forms of life. For thousands of years all walks of life and many civilizations have recorded information leaning toward the idea, if not directly stating, that their is life in that stars. Perhaps I could humbly suggest a quick read of "Chariots of the Gods" and other books relating to the remaining artifacts and evidence pointing to the existance of such intellegent life.

What we search for with Seti@home is the intentional communication from somewhere out there and to provide proof of it's existance. Be real...
Atlantis wasn't a fairy tale. The pyramids weren't designed by the Pharoahs of Egypt. And, finally, IF...IF they did...how'd they know HOW to...

I DO, however, have an opinion as to whether or not we SHOULD look for them. I think that our society is not ready for meeting an ET. Heck, we can't even get along with the people on THIS planet. I think that if we can teach our children the importance of communication and friendships then we're one step closer to being READY to meet ET.

So, you may wonder why I run Seti@home in light of this opinion. I think that showing the common people of this planet that life DOES exist outside of our atmosphere could be the rope that draws our divided countries together. Countries fight and die every day for what they beleive in and all over arguments of who's God is greater and who's God EXISTS!!! When the bigger picture is shown to the world it might humble us all just enough to finally get along.
