Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it?

I certainly hope so. I find it hard to believe that we are by ourselves in this vast universe. As far as when and how goes I really can't say. I think we should do as much as we can to reach out in the hope of finding other intelligent life.

What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
The benefits are obvious, there is simply nothing like looking at your own culture through another culture's eyes. We could learn many things from one another.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?

I think we should.

If so, what information should we send?

Hmmmm....I have a couple of ideas, how about: "We may seem like a bunch of war-mongering petty idiots but deep down we are really nice people once you get to know us." or "Help! We need you to keep us from killing ourselves" and definately, "Ignore the programming between 54MHz and 806 MHz we call it entertainment, we'll fill you in when you get here."
