I currently reside in a subburb of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and am employed by a software company (complete financial and clinical software system for CCRC's and nursing homes) as the IT Manager.
I am divorced and have 3 children, the oldest being 22 and the youngest is 16. The two youngest share time both at my home and their mom's... when they're not on the go (which, from the odometer reading on my car, is "always"). My hobbies are N-Gauge Model Trains, digital photography and cooking (even the ex-wife misses the cooking). Recently I have gotten back to playing war games "PBEM" (play by eMail).
I am a University of Tennessee Alumnus (Go VOLS!) and also a former Naval Aviator who longs for the sea again (things were so simple back then...). My social life is limited (my kids say "dead" and they're always trying to "jumpstart" it by "fixing me up" with their friend's single moms) in that between work, coming home and the kids on the weekends and trying to finish several books I have started... I just don't go out much. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

Do I think that life exists elsewhere?.. yes... otherwise I wouldn't have setup my PC's at home (when you have 3 kids... everyone wants to "surf the net" at the same time... my solution/salvation?.. individual PC's networked to a broadband Internet connection) to run SETI 24x7!
I hope that when we we discover/are discovered... they will be friendly like E.T. was... but if it's like Independence Day... well, guess all those years of pushing metal through the skies will pay off when it's time to "kick the tires and light the fires"!
Why do I run SETI@Home?.. I gess the same reason I was a volunteer firefighter/paramedic... to do something extra, something that helps others. How will finding E.T. help?.. I don't have that answer... but hopefully others do and if that one chunk of data I process turns out to be our first contact... I hope they use it wisely.
Life on other worlds?.. in a way it will be amusing... watching all the different religions trying to figure out how to say "we goofed" and put the best spin on it! |
