Personal background
Staying incongnito. My interest here is the distributed computing.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Frankly, it is a waste of time and computer resources. If you think about the vastness of space, distances etc., you'd realize there are more productive things to be doing. That being said, the distributed computing concept needed to be lead by something and I applaud using this subject to interest all the participating users. All the unused computer power idling away on screensavers is even a worse waste of time, let alone the power and natural resources consumed to make it possible. Now there are other projects out there, i.e. molecule orientation programs for cancer cures, etc. to apply distributed computing too. I had trouble running them. Seti@home was much more bug free. And the solutions to some of them might lead to a profit for some company so that didn't feel right either. But, if I was going to leave my computer on anyway, might as well have it do something.

What do you think about retiring the Hubble?
What do you think about some "Go to Mars Goal"?
